My garden hose used to drive me nuts. It was always in the way — sprawled across the lawn, kinked up near the spigot, or tangled like a giant green snake. I’d trip over it, or worse, run over it with the mower.
I wanted a way to store it neatly without one of those clunky plastic reels that look like they came from a hardware aisle clearance bin. That’s when I found the perfect solution: a decorative hose pot.
Not only does it keep my hose tidy and easy to access, but it also looks like it belongs right in the garden.
Why a Hose Pot Works Better Than You Think
At first, I didn’t think a pot could handle a full garden hose — but it can. Most hose pots are wide and deep enough to hold a standard 50–100-foot hose, with a hole in the back for the spigot connection.
What I love most is how it blends in. Instead of a tangled mess, I’ve got a nice-looking pot sitting by the faucet that actually adds something to the yard. Terracotta, metal, ceramic — you can find one that fits your garden’s style.
And if you’ve already got a large planter or pot sitting around? You can turn it into a DIY hose holder in minutes.

How I Set Up My Decorative Hose Storage
Here’s how I did it:
- Choose a Large, Sturdy Pot: I picked a wide clay pot with a weathered finish that matches the rest of my backyard. You want something with enough room to coil the hose inside without cramming it.
- Drill a Hole (Optional): If your pot doesn’t have a built-in hose hole, you can drill one near the base for the hose to feed through — just big enough for the hose to slide comfortably.
- Coil and Store: I drain the hose after each use, coil it up neatly inside the pot, and tuck the nozzle on top for easy grabbing. That’s it.
You can also toss in a pair of gloves, a spray nozzle, or some garden scissors — it becomes a little storage hub that’s both useful and nice to look at.
Tidy Yard, Stylish Touch
Since I started using a hose pot, my backyard feels more put-together. No more stepping over a messy hose or searching for the end buried in the grass. It’s a simple change, but it makes a big difference — both for looks and convenience.
If your hose is always in the way, try this easy upgrade. You’ll stay organized and add a bit of charm to your garden while you’re at it.
